thinking about how my/your/our/the future feels, photograph series, 2020
This series of five self-portrait photographs outlines a reflection of my inner turmoil of dealing with the collective anxieties, trauma, mourning and school fatigue as it progresses since the beginning of the pandemic. Each image conveys a stage of how dealing and coping with certain mental illnesses during an age where everything is turning online. Our presence staying at home has become something with no deeper meaning. We feel as if we are just floating through. We are neither here nor there. But on the internet.
There is a recurring theme of using myself as the subject with an element of disruption to what is going on; shaking my head, collaborating with text and the augmented use of coloured LED lights. All together, these components can create the depiction that something is slightly off, whether it is my physical actions or within my subconscious in each image. Each photograph is interrupting and augmenting my surrounding environment to reflect this period of an ongoing crisis that carries on in my life, your life and our future’s life.
