"'Travelling East' is a series that connects routes of my everyday life or experiences travelling east by commute, a country or concepts that connects yearning for and seeking the “right” direction of our lives that often ensues during adolescence. The far-left painting depicts a moment of commuting east on the GO train from Mississauga to Toronto to a job to gain an understanding of where my passions lie. The far-right painting visualizes a Greek flea market during my trip to visit family. This location geographically is also located east, however, it acts as a placeholder as a second “home” for me to return back to when I was a child. Each time I return to Greece, it grounds me to my core values as an artist and redirects self-autonomy. The central painting depicting a gradient with the bracketed words“nobody talks about the in-between”, asks us to consider the moments of growth, transition, grievances during different periods of one's life. It is the transitional footprint that helps redirect us to our ambitions, research and self-discoveries. It is the space in between that occurs as day shifts into night, commonly known as twilight - referring to obscurity and ambiguity - and vice versa. 'Travelling East' dialogues my experiences of grief, uncertainty and identity-seeking which goes through this process of an “in-between” phase before there is clarity."
